Friendship feels increasingly elusive these days—optional, even, and in a transactional society, sometimes not needed at all.
Thank you. That’s a good point. I guess I used the term “friend” quite loosely, with the idea of making friends as a different way of saying “getting to know”. But you’re absolutely right that the word acquaintance could fit better in this context. And yeah it’s not easy for meaningful friendships nowadays, but I’d say for many people it’s still very much needed/desired.

Human connection is indeed a beautiful thing, worth cultivating.
Developing it as a skill is also worth refining and perfecting.
